...the $4.1 billion Community Development Block Grant, could be cut as much as 40 percent, according to Republican and Democratic congressional aides.
[...] The White House will brandish independent studies on program effectiveness, appeals for lawmakers to set priorities, and, on occasion, some rhetorical creativity. The deep cuts to community development, for example, have been titled the "Strengthening America's Communities Initiative."
I give 'em credit for balls and creativity, I guess.

Having written several CDBG applications for city community development projects such as a new senior citizens center and numerous engineering feasibility studies, I am currently awaiting hopeful news that my last one written, an Indian CDBG application for close to $800,000. to put new roofs, weatherized windows and storm doors on 20-30 homes on a Native American reservation to benefit over 1,000 people. I find it appalling that Bush would do such a slick move like this. Anyone who has dealt with EDA knows it can be the "corporate" welfare benefit of all "corporate" welfare benefits and rarely benefiting the low to moderate income people targeted under CDBG. Bush is going to kill off anyone who isn't rich and successful in this country. To hell with him!!!
