Politics: The Scream

Atrios reminds us...
a year and a half or so later it's pretty instructive to remind ourselves what constituted the worst political gaffe in the history of the universe, according to The Note fuckwads and their ilk.

So, let's listen to a rousing campaign speech, directed at a crowd of passionate supporters who had just lost, and consider why it was thought to be so offensive." [listen.]

I don't know...

Given that Dean won only one primary, I would say a large majority of Democratic Primary voters considered it a "killing" gaffe.

Shorter Atrios-"Democratic voters are fuckwads."

Yeah, it had the effect of a terrible political gaffe, but the actual action was more or less harmless and should have been a non-story.

The media (on the right, anxious to further portray Dean as unhinged and from left, anxious to promote others in the primaries) determined it was the nail to seal Dean's coffin and relentlessly hammered it.

Dean didn't do anything wrong and was castigated for it.

Oh, and shorter Mr Furious -- "Democratic voters are fuckwads, because they tossed aside a good thing for no reason for an "electable" guy like Kerry, who promptly lost said election."
