Am I a bad person...

...because I have no idea who Randy Pausch is?

Seriously. I never heard of the guy until I saw a few bloggers note his passing. I didn't think too much about it until my mom pointed it out in the paper today.

I just did "a Google" and now I know who he is. No, I'm not a bad person, but I probably need to branch out and read something besides twoglasses.com and political and baseball blogs once in a while...

I saw a story about this the other day, but I'd never heard of him until then. Why would you think that you should know who he is? Or that you would remember his name even if you had heard his story before?

Tongue in cheek, my friend. I know I'm a bad person, but it has nothing to do with knowing who that guy is...

I saw it mentioned at John Cole's blog, then Sullivan's (or somewhere), and I just kinda blew it off, but my parents were here over the weekend and my mom pointed it out to my dad, and I thought, "WTF? Who IS that guy?"

Once you dive into anything about him, it makes pretty clear he was a terminally-ill professor who made some inspirational lecture that must have been all the rage on YouTube or Oprah or something, but I totally missed that whole thing when it happened.

btw, I can't believe I just used that phrase. I HATE "tongue in cheek" and all variations of it.

Well--did you watch his Last Lecture? Did it move you or what? He was so brave, I thought. It was one of those moments that make you realize that most of what we worry about and feel sorry for ourselves about is really pretty meaningless.

I think, in a way, he hit pretty close to 1.000.

Dude, you used tongue-in-cheek. Knock it off. Next thing I know you'll be saying things like, "It's a dog eat dog world!"
