Muslim = Traitor

From Media Matters [video and full transcript at link]:

On the November 14 edition of his CNN Headline News program, Glenn Beck interviewed Rep.-elect Keith Ellison (D-MN), who became the first Muslim ever elected to Congress on November 7, and asked Ellison if he could "have five minutes here where we're just politically incorrect and I play the cards up on the table." After Ellison agreed, Beck said: "I have been nervous about this interview with you, because what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.' " Beck added: "I'm not accusing you of being an enemy, but that's the way I feel, and I think a lot of Americans will feel that way."

Now, Beck couched this nauseating statement with plenty of "some of my best friends are Muslim"-type qualifying, but the truth is right there in his quote — "That the way I feel."

This tool just "hypothesized" that a newly elected member of Congress is a traitor on national cable news.

Liberal fucking media, my ass.

What a fucking jackass.

I believe he's a former talk-radio wingnut (think Micael Savage). CNN hired him sometime in the last year or so. I've seen his name pop up as a villain several times, but this was the first time I ever saw a clip of him.

Just getting caught-up on missed blogs from having a sick wife and kid to deal with all weekend.

I saw that clip on the Daily Show, and John Stewart handled it well (after Glen did the my-best-friends-are-Muslim statement, they cut back to John who quipped that 'this isn't going to end well').

Unbelievable. No. Strangely, from a massive tool like this, it is sadly quite believable.

His statement that "lots of Americans believe this way" is utter bullshit. Scoreboard, motherfucker. If so many Americans truly believed that, this guy wouldn't be elected.

In 2005 the Glenn Beck program was heard on more than 200 stations, and was the third highest-rated national radio talk show among adults ages 25 to 54 according to Premiere Research/Arbitron.

On January 17, 2006 Beck explained his recent three week absence with the announcement that he was beginning a new television show at CNN Headline News. To accommodate the new show, Beck relocated his studios to Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

And whether you folks care to acknowledge it or not, there are a lot of folks out there who view Muslims with a lot of skepticism. That's the post 911 world we live in.

I've watched his show a few times, surfing through the dial late at night. He predicted WW3 was going to start as a result of the Israel - Hezbollah exchange. Gee, I wonder how that turned out.

He strikes me as a watered down version of O'Reilly, but with more facts.

He had the decency to provide a brief recent history of the Middle East, about 60 years or so, that was surprisingly accurate.

He's still a dick though.
