Bombs Away

Shep Smith has seemingly strayed from the dark side of late, and here he lets loose on two FOX News clowns "debating" torture.

Awesome.

Did he say "fucking?"

I think he said "...we do not fucking torture."

I listened twice. I think he did.

Anyway, he's right. We. Do. Not. Fucking. Torture.

This whole debate about whether or not it got us valuable information is bullshit, and makes it even worse.

Want to see what torture got us? This:

“There was constant pressure on the intelligence agencies and the interrogators to do whatever it took to get that information out of the detainees, especially the few high-value ones we had, and when people kept coming up empty, they were told by Cheney’s and Rumsfeld’s people to push harder,” he continued.

“Cheney’s and Rumsfeld’s people were told repeatedly, by CIA . . . and by others, that there wasn’t any reliable intelligence that pointed to operational ties between bin Laden and Saddam, and that no such ties were likely because the two were fundamentally enemies, not allies.”

Senior administration officials, however, “blew that off and kept insisting that we’d overlooked something, that the interrogators weren’t pushing hard enough, that there had to be something more we could do to get that information,” he said.

Wow, I couldn't agree more. I think the moral argument is enough to keep it off the table, but not even having a practical reason to torture makes the supporters look even more barbaric.

I still can't believe people support stuff that we hung Japanese war criminals for following WWII.

That's exactly it, steves. The people on the pro-torture side? Are they really pro-torture? Not on its merits. They hold that position because of the politics. BEcause it was their side that did it.

So, naturally they view any response to that as "pure politics" or a "partisan witch hunt."

It doesn't occur to them that the Department of Justice might need to investigate what happened BECAUSE IT WAS AGAINST THE LAW.

The fact of the matter is that the politics is the only thing keeping Cheney out of The Hague. If Obama faithfully executed his Constitutional duty, those fuckers would be under the kleig lights yesterday. But because all holy hell would break loose if people were actually held accountable, this fucking slow dance has to happen first...and we'll be lucky if anything ever comes of it.
