Don't take that to mean I am shocked or surprised. I'm not. I always expected this putrid piece of shit Torture Bill to pass. And I never realistically expected the Dems to rise to the most important challenge to the Constitution of our lifetimes and actually get off their asses and filibuster...
I'm at a loss for words because I actually cannot reconcile my feelings about this. I just don't know what to say.
For days, I've been unable to really put something together on this. It's too big, too important. This is truly a historical fuckup happening here. I've read some good stuff over the last couple days from people who could actually get a handle on this issue. Perhaps I'll throw some links down later. Right now, I'm going to bed with a gigantic knot in my stomach. Not because this thing passed—that was a foregone conclusion. It's the fact that thirteen Democrats and one fake Democrat (Lieberman) supported this. I'm going to need some time to reassess. An incredibly disappointing episode for the party from the start.
This I do know. Debbie Fucking Stabenow is dead to me. I cannot vote for her. Not this fall. Not ever.

So. Pissed. More blatant election-year pandering by people too afraid to stand up to the Republican attack machine.
I cannot imagine why Stabenow's people, or she herself, would cast that vote. At this point, she is polling ahead of Bouchard.
Blind and foolish. Way to stand up, Debbie. Should have followed Carl Levin's (D - Never Ever Leave, Please) lead...
I will now have to permantently group Stabenow with the dozen or so DINOs who always seem to vote the wrong way on these types of things. You know the two Nelsons, Salazar, Landrieu & Co. and of course, fucking Lieberman.
I expect this shit from them. There's always a part of me that hopes somehow the party will hold the line on a certain issue, but those clowns almost never fail to disappoint. But at least in these cases I can say, "yeah, that guy's gotta win in South Dakota. Or Louisiana."
But Stabenow is in Michigan. A supposedly blue state. The senior Senator (Levin) always comes through, and should offer her some cover. She is leading her race rather comfortably. There was simply no call for this vote.
If she was voting her own conscience, or because she actually believes in this Bill (and torture), then shame on her, and she is in the wrong fucking party.
If this was a bad political decision based on electoral concerns (and I fear this is the case), then that to me is even worse. Politically clueless and morally bankrupt is not a good combination.
Either way, I have no use for her. If she is going to fail me on this many votes of consequence, there might as well have been a Republican in office.
We should seriously put our heads together and write a solid letter to send to her district office in Lansing expressing our disappointment; that this is the final straw in a slew of ignorant votes and we're finished. 'Cause I know I am.
Yeah. The odds of her dropping by here to find out how I feel are pretty slim...
Though seriously? I've contacted her office every goddamn time for these big votes and it's made no difference.
I will put something together and let you know later today.
It is sure include something along these lines...
While I am hoping you retain your seat and the Democrats regain control of the Senate, you will do it without my help or my vote. I am ashamed that you are the Democrat that represents my state, you worthless fuc—*&%$@$ @)% #*#)!#$% *^%#@
Well, I'll try to maintain some composure...
It's amazing how you liberals advocate a terrorist bill of rights.
It should probably also avoid a greeting line along this train:
"The (dis)Honorable Fuckweed:"
Terrorist bill of rights? You figured us out, sos. This is what we do. We wake up every day and ask ourselves how we can, with all conscience, either screw Americans or assist terrorists. Better call the FBI on us.
Get a grip. We're looking out for you, your family, my family and everyone else's.
Exactly. Nothing the Democrats wanted to change about this legislation was in any way a "Bill of Rights" for terrorists. It is affirming the basic protections and rights afforded too all of us.
And nothing actually in this bill does anything to keep America safe. This is pure election bullshit. Straight up.
If the Terrorist Bill Of Rights includes language that says, "Don't torture anyone," then I guess I'll volunteer to draft the damn thing.
Anyone who rationalizes torturing another human being is too much of an asshole to speak to in normal terms.
Smitty,
Don't do me any 'favors' please. Your version of protecting this country is Carter and Clinton like. Both those men cost this country dearly.
I'll grant you Carter, sos. He was pure douchebaggery. But not Clinton.
CArter had to operate in a post-Vietnam climate that probably made pretty much any military operation impossible.
Carter brokered the peace deal between Egypt and Israel—no small task.
Carter is often maligned for the botched hostage rescue mission, when he really deserves NO blame for that tragic, freak accident.
Also, it is no understood that he was unable to deliver the hostages due to the side deal cut to swing the election...
But I will grant that Carter has probably been a better ex-President, than actual-PResident.
Considering that, and the work Carter (and even Bush 41) are doing post-office, does anybody here really picture the selfish brat currently in office doing anything constructive post-office?
You're just full of excuses Mr. Furious.....
Carter sucked, period.
