"Let me pick up where I left off... three years ago..."

Josh Marshall has the transcript of the absolute bullshit Bush spewed in answer to the first question Helen Thomas has been allowed to ask him in literally years. The invaluable Crooks and Liars has the video here.

It's been a couple years (at least) since Thomas has been called on by the President, and the stunning thing is that nothing in Bush's answer has changed in that time. These are the same exact lies he told in 2003. How the press can't start laughing at him and walk out of the room is beyond me.

After watching this, I'm never going to bitch about the fact the President never does news conferences. It is a complete waste of everybody's time, and bad for my blood pressure.

Well, you gotta give him credit, he recycles every tad of every speech he's ever given. It begins like food but ends like shit.

Reality never comes knocking at his door. He seems to be stuck in time without a clue.

I think Bush rationalizes like a 12-year-old caught out after doing something wrong.

See, I didn't really mean for there to be war. What I wanted was for there to be regime change.

I even gave Saddam a chance to leave the country, just go off to somewhere and have a nice life, even after all the evil things he did. And we could've gone in there without any shooting or anything. We could've helped them set up a new government without Saddam.

But he wouldn't do that, so we had to have the bombing, the invasion and the war. It's all Saddam's fault.

I think he rationalizes that way and that he believes answers like the one he gave Helen Thomas.
