Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has decided to keep the chamber in session over the Thanksgiving break to block President Bush from making any unsavory recess appointments while Senators are out of town.
Good. Reid should do this for the rest of Bush's misbegotten term. Too bad the Dems didn't tell Bush to pound sand instead of confriming Mukasey, and then done this.

Except that Mukasey is a better choice (in relative terms) than the asshole that was running Justice in the interim.
Toast, I'm with you on that.
Good for Reid. Bush has a whackjob who makes Sen. Tom Coburn seem almost normal waiting in the wings to become surgeon general of the U.S. The guy is obsessed with homosexuality — and not in any kind of helpful way.
Anyway, the word is that Bush was sure to recess appoint this quack over the holiday recess, so the pro-forma session will see to it one less turkey is served for the holiday.
Yeah, apparently this Surgeon General guy had already left his current gig in preparation for his appointment.
Sounds like a potential Nelson winner to me...
Yeah, I know Bush installed an asshole at Justice to help grease the skids for Mukasey. Doesn't matter.
Once they asked Mukasey the waterboarding question in the confirmation hearings, and failed it, they were obligated to bounce him in my opinion. None of this BS about "he's the best guy Bush will send up."
It's probably true, but I don't care.
Didn't Mukasy re-open the investigation on torture? Isn't that a good thing?
In theory it's good, let's see where it goes before we get excited...
"let's see where it goes before we get excited..."
Mr. F., I'm with you on that one.
There's something way too pat about how this went down. Makes me think Bush felt confident because he knew all the tracks had been covered, witnesses told to keep quiet, told what to say or dispersed, etc. I'll be surprised if this investigation is fruitful.

I agree. I kinda expect "hey, we looked into it and we're totally cool, so there's nothing to see here."
What Harry Reid does not anticipate is the Bush administration's intent to put forward Uncle Sam as a recess appointment.
Let's see those Dems stand up to an American icon and risk being perceived as unpatriotic. The trap has been set!
