Coming Soon

Since I need a breather from the politics (clearly) and movies have been a hot topic over the last week, I thought I'd point to a few films I am eagerly anticipating...

IRON MAN
There have been a LOT of comic-based movies over the last several years, and in nearly ALL cases the trailers look cool. Unfortunately the payoff hasn't been there for most of them. I'm hoping Iron Man follows through. The armor looks awesome, the music is rocking and Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark might be the best casting for any character ever. RDJr is Tony Stark—rich, smug, alcoholic, substance abuser, wiseass...

THE BANK JOB
If nothing else, this movie gets my seal of kickassness for the best poster I've seen in years. I freaking LOVE this poster (click to embiggen). I haven't actually seen Statham in anything but "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" but I've seen trailers for everything else plus this and something tells me I'm a big fan waiting to happen. See the trailer here.

STAR TREK
Like I need to write anything else here? Teaser.

IN BRUGES
I must be a sucker for the Euro-caper movies. Trailer

HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY
Why the hell not? The first one was supposed to be good...Trailer

THE VISITOR
Looks very good, but don't watch the trailer...spoiler.

Yeah, IRON MAN looks ridiculously good. I'm also really looking forward to HELLBOY II (I won't tell you which line, but there's a quote from HB in my meme). As for TREK, I'm more nervous than excited, they're going in a direction that makes me worry a little.

Seconded on the Iron Man praise. It's the role RDJ was freaking born for. Looks like a great romp.

I've decided not to worry, and more importantly, not to find too much out. I want to go in without knowing anything.

Oooh... I must track down one of those movie posters from a theater when its run ends. That one is going to be worth money someday.

Oh... and hijacking for a moment to answer the question you left on my blog, the poster in my living room is this:

I collect vintage advertising.

Yeah, Iron Man looks good, but it doesn't give me nearly the nerd boner as this:

actually, just click my name.

Doctor Manhattan: We're all puppets, Laurie. I'm just a puppet who can see the strings.

I am so FRIGGIN' excited about Iron Man and Star Trek. Because I'm a big nerd.

You know, I don't remember how I came upon your blog but I'm glad I did - I like it here.

You must've come by way of Deb's Missives From Suburbia

Iron Man. I can't wait. I love superheros with tragic flaws.

Smitty, get your ass down to the movie quote thread... you and your crew are the final hope for the one unidentified quote left!

I'm looking forward to the new Indiana Jones movie. I don't care if Harrison Ford is 60. He's Harrison Ford, so that settles it so far as I'm concerned. It's like Robert Redford and Paul Newman; it doesn't matter how old they get, they're still sexy beasts.
