Instructions: Look up 15 of your favorite films on IMDb and take a quote from each. List them below. When someone guesses the quote correctly, cross it off the list. Leave a comment with your answers. And NO CHEATING (Googling).
As I read these on the other blogs (Angelos, Toast, Chemist, Tart) I would scroll down and guess as many as I could without reading anybody elses' guesses. It seemed to require a group effort in most cases. I have no idea how hard my list is, I tried to pick based on my favorite(ish) movies, and use a not quite "signature" quote, but not too obscure—memorable to me.
There are fifteen different movies represented, but because I'm so damn indecisive and the quotes are too freaking good, I doubled up on a couple. Have at it...
1.
("Go!"—Rickey)
2.
("Midnight Run"—Angelos)
3.
("Gladiator"—Fridge)
4.
("Unforgiven"—Fridge)
5.
("Pulp Fiction"—Tart)
6.
"I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood. You tell the angels in heaven you never seen evil so singularly personified as you did in the face of the man who killed you."
("True Romance"—Rickey)
7.
("Reservoir Dogs"—Rickey)
9.
("City Slickers" Toasty Joe) Not really one of my favorite movies, but one of my favorite quotes...
10.
("The Natural"—Angelos)
11.
("Sling Blade"—Rickey)
12.
13.
("Swingers"—Tart)
14. "And I'd like to point out that these tapes have not been faked, or altered in any way. In fact they have a time code, which is very difficult to fake." CLUE: See the comments for the full exchange, but here's an additional quote that should give it away: "My brother and I used to say that drownin' in beer was like heaven, eh? Now he's not here, and I've got two soakers... this isn't heaven, this sucks."
15.
Ah, hell...I can't leave this movie out, so here's a bonus quote:
16.
("Jaws"—Toast)
This one is more time-consuming than most so I am reluctant to tag, but I'll give it to Mike (here, and it's a high degree of difficulty, check it out), since I think he'll get into it, along with Rickey (done) and Adam (done).

4. Tombstone

13. Swingers
2. Midnight Run
10. The Natural
13. Swingers
Bitch!
15. Munich?
Bitch!
Ho!
6. True Romance (a criminally underated flick)
7. Reservoir Dogs (we like Tarantino, Rickey sees)
11. Sling Blade, Rickey thinks?
Alright, alright Rickey shall get to work on the meme...
15. The Sting.
Other than that, I got nothin'.
#4 is NOT Tombstone.
Full disclosure: I never saw Tombstone
#15 is not Munich. It is, indeed, The Sting.
True Romance fucking rocks. Tony Scott added his glitz, but Tarantino's script is phenomenal and the performances and volume of high-quality cameos is unheard of.
Which quote (if either) gave it away, Rickey? Brad Pitt as Lloyd the stoner or Walken's evil-personified mob lawyer?
It seems like I just saw #15 in a movie, but I've never seen The Sting. I have movie deja vu.
Full disclosure: I never saw Tombstone
Dude.
16. Jaws.
14. Blair Witch Project?
4) Unforgiven?
14. Blair Witch Project?
LOL! Good guess, but waaaay off.
This might be the most difficult one up there,as it is the most obscure movie, but my money is on ALL of the Toasters having seen it, just perhaps not since college. Or earlier.
#3 GLADIATOR!!!!!
Phew. I feel so much better having remembered that.
It seems like I just saw #15 in a movie, but I've never seen The Sting. I have movie deja vu.
Actually, if you're remembering something that's never happened to you before, I think it's called vuja de.
Fuck fuck fuck. 14 is making me nuts. I can almost hear the person saying it.
RE: #14...
Okay, Toast, here is the full exchange after that quote:
"For the benefit of the court, Could you please explain time code"
"Um, just because I don't know what it is, doesn't mean I'm lying."
My Cousin Vinny.
Nope. Think older movie...and goofier.
Shit. Had to look it up. Damn, dude, that's reaching deep into 80's obscurity.
Bastard! Dude, it's a busy day at work, but I PROMISE you I'll get to this tonight. Awesome meme.
Oh it was absolutely the Walken quote that gave it away. But Brad Pitt's little cameo in the movie is equally noteworthly. Also, were you aware that an incredibly slim James Gandolfini has a bit part in the movie?
Oh, I'm keenly aware of all the characters in that flick...
Are YOU aware that the name Alabama (Patricia Arquettes's character) comes up in conversation in "Reservoir Dogs?"
IIRC correctly it's between Joe (Lawrence Tierney) and Mr White (Harvey Keitel).
You guys can't tell me #14 wasn't in the rotation in the frat house...
Do we have to wait for Smitty & Co. to show up for that one?
No, Rickey was unaware! That's terrific.
#12 - Payback?
#12 - Payback?
Nope. It's from a movie not known for quotes as much as something else...but there is a strong clue right there in the quote...
Thanks for the tag, Furious. I did it this morning.
Unfortunately, I don't know any of yours that are left. In fact, I'm lost.
Alrighty then Furious, Rickey has responded in kind. Not all the quotes are as strong as yours, but Rickey gave it a shot.
PS: #1 is Go. A criminally underappreciated flick. It's too bad Liman doesn't make decent movies anymore...
YES! Number 1 is indeed "Go" and it is a standout movie. There are so many good performances and great lines I had a real hard time picking this riff from Todd the drug dealer.
He also had the other contending quote:
[Referring to the Family Circus comic strip]
Todd: And it's always there, in the lower right hand corner, just waiting to suck.
9. City Slickers!!! Love that scene.
You got it TJ. I remember seeing that movie in a nearly empty bargain theater and laughing so hard and loudly at that line that it scared people.
Daniel Stern's wife: You banged this little girl in my father's store?!?
Daniel Stern's mistress (played by the voice of Lisa Simpson): No!! It was in his car!
12 -- Kill Bill!
Haley-
Nope!
#12 Memento! Damn, that movie is amazing.
Are we ever getting the damned answer to 14? It's driving me crazy!
I put a clue in there, if nobody gets it tomorrow, I'll reveal...
I don't remember either quote, but brothers and beer has got to be Strange Brew, hosers.
#14 is used cars
took me like all of 5 seconds.
"We have a, uh, MILE, or cars"
and it's Joe flaherty who says it.
wow, i meant strange brew, not used cars. im really hung over, sorry.
there's also a really similar line in used cars, that Joe says during the trial at the end.
