Question of the Week

What is your favorite bad movie?

Once upon a time I actually used the old two-VCR technique to dub a copy of Who's Harry Crumb, because for some reason I thought it was a movie I needed to always have available. With John Candy and the D-list support of Jeffrey Jones, Annie Potts, Tim Thomerson, Barry Corbin and Shawnee Smith, it's easy to see why...

I'm sure you've always wondered what the Pink Panther films would be like minus the talent of Peter Sellers...well, wonder no longer...

And yes, I just wasted twenty minutes watching YouTube clips...which just proves the point. I can't resist it.

I don't know if Roadhouse counts as a bad movie. It's Patrick Swayze and a bunch of people I've never ever seen in a movie again. The concept is poor. The acting is bad. The script is weak. The special effects are dismal. And I love the movie to pieces.

Are you questioning whether or not it's a movie? Because ity is undoubtedly bad...

But, it's true, you can't just turn it off when you run into it...

I guess that makes it more of a car wreck than a movie I suppose.

For me, it's a toss-up between "Homicidal" and "McKenna's Gold."

This hilarious review of "Gold" says it better than I could: "Round up at central casting or How to end your career with Lurch"

Roadhouse is a a great bad movie. And pain don't hurt.

I'm sticking with Death Race 2000.

Angel, you are aware they are making a new Death Race, right? Stars Jason Statham.

I asked my husband what my favorite bad movie is, because if a movie is among my favorites, I have a hard time coming to grips with the idea that it might be bad. He responded, "Clueless". Naturally, I had to disagree. I told him "Clueless" is one of the best modern coming-of-age movies ever shot. He replied, "Thus proving your original point about not being able to tell if one of your favorites is bad or not."

Fine.

Mr. F, I really really like Jason Statham. The perfect action actor.

Snatch; Lock, Stock, and 2 Smoking Barrels; The Transporter; Revolver; etc. All parts played to perfection.

And yet this news distresses me.

Don't mess with camp or cult. It's just wrong.

I used to love bad movies. I just don't have the time that I did back in college to stay up all night watching HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax.

Roadhouse was great and had all the great elements of an action film. Grizzled old mentor---Sam Elliot. Hot love interest---Kelly Lynch. Outrageous bad guy---Ben Gazzara. In addition, it was based on a true story.

Since Roadhouse was taken, I'll pick Hudson Hawk. While it had an 'A' list cast, it pretty much tanked in the theatre.
