Not a Good Development

Hunter Shot by Cheney Has Heart Attack
Associated Press Writers 7 minutes ago
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The 78-year-old lawyer who was shot by Vice President Dick Cheney in a hunting accident has some birdshot in or touching his heart and he had "a silent heart attack" Tuesday morning, hospital officials said. [emphasis mine]

The victim, Harry Whittington, was immediately moved back to the intensive care unit for further treatment, said Peter Banko, the administrator at Christus Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial in Texas.

Banko said doctors conducting a regular check up on Whittington Tuesday morning discovered an irregularity in the heartbeat caused by a pellet, and they performed a cardiac catheterization around 10 a.m. EST. Whittington was in stable condition after treatment and expressed a desire to leave the hospital, but Banko said they would probably keep him for another week to make sure more shot doesn't move to other vital organs.

Peppered pretty good indeeed.

That development takes some edge off all the humor, all right.

Meanwhile, I'm beginning to fall in line with those questioning the degree to which people and the media are devoting time and attention to this.

Yes, Cheney and the White House handled notifying the public in their own dismissive, cloddish way. So what else did anyone expect?

Yes, there's some question about how a lighter shotgun could do so much damage at the distance we've been told this shooting occurred at.

The complete, fully honest story may never be known.

Barring some new development, it's time to move on.

I'm not willing to let it go as merely cloddish. The best case scenario for the VP/White House is that they had no intention of mentioning this right away, except that Ms. Armstrong basically insisted—forcing their hand, but they still managed to stall long enough to miss the Sunday papers and talk shows. They were crossing their fingers that Whittingham would be fine and they could "finesse" this thing. Hence Rove's immediate involvement—almost before the President!

The worse case scenario is that the delay was covering something up—such as the VP having been impaired at the time of the shooting. Not necessarily drunk, mind you, but perhaps in legal jeopardy.

These are high level mofo' who are going to stick to the script and the stories have been permanently straightened. The truth likely lies somewhere in the middle, but I would be shocked if we ever really found out what actually hapened.

At this point I'm just waiting until that cold-blooded motherfucker actually steps the fuck up and addresses the issue. What a goodamn pussy. I'm not moving on until then, to be sure.
