Dick of the Week: John McCain

From the Carpetbagger:
Obviously, presidential candidates aren’t responsible for comments made by their supporters. Candidates are, however, responsible for showing a little class. It’s apparently something that John McCain has forgotten.

At a campaign event in South Carolina, a McCain backer stood up to ask the senator, “How do we beat the bitch?”

In response, McCain said, “We have our differences with our Democratic rivals, but I believe in treating people with respect. It’s why I don’t refer to women as ‘bitches,’ even when I disagree with them. I’m sure all of us believe we can debate the serious issues of the day without name-calling and degrading language.”

No, no, I’m just kidding. He actually responded, “That’s an excellent question.”

You have to see it to believe it...

I love the follow-up, “John, she’s talking about my ex-wife!”

ROTFLMAO! That might even be construed as spousal abuse! Hysterical!

First of all, I was initially shocked that the question came from a woman, though I suppose she felt "innoculated." But seriously, is that the kind of comment people feel comfortable making in a high-powered meeting with a Presidential candidate? Who fucking does that? And the room reacts with uproarious laughter?

In any normal room a comment like that goes over like a lead balloon. With most people being, like, "what did she just say?"

But not McCain. After has to composing himself from laughing, he then treats it as a perfectly valid, no, an "Excellent" question...in front of a camera no less.

He's lucky the next question wasn't about Obama.

Somehow I don’t think the next Rasmussen poll will have you up three points, Senator. Stay classy!

Her comment is indicative of the whole sentiment of that party.

I had gto go represent my firm at the huge state republican party convention up on Mackinac Island a few months ago. They had a breakout session called "Republican Women Matter."

Republican Women Matter.

They have a whole fucking session at their convention to let people know that their women matter too.

That makes that lady's question make a ton more sense. Its root is "how dare that bitch stand up in a leadership role against the men I love so dearly?"

I am glad I identify with a party that doesn't need a breakout session at a convention to make sure all our constituencies feel included. We ask ours to try to run for the top spot.

Apparently McCain was once forced to apologize to then-President Bill Cinton for a completely tasteless joke back in 1998...

"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?
Because her father is Janet Reno."

The joke may be crude, but it pales in comparison with the published details surrounding the presidential sex scandal. McCain's two-liner conveys some interesting insights into what he considers humorous (lesbianism, a young woman's physical appearance), particularly since it was delivered to a Republican crowd. Remember, this is the party that champions pro-family values.

Nice.

You know, whether or not you support Hilary Clinton, this is just plain ridiculous. What would his response have been had it been "How do we beat that {racial slur}," or even more simply, "How do we beat that a**hole?" It would have been unacceptable. But there's something in our society that makes it okay to call a powerful woman a bitch on national television and have it deemed an "excellent question." Is John McCain a tactless jackass? Seems like. Is Hilary a bitch? Could be. But should those be part of mature discourse on who is best qualified to run our country? Hmmm...

Everyone in that room and anyone who support a Republican, any Republican, has a severe mental disorder. They are a danger to everyone, even themselves. They are like zombies in a B movie, driven by a primal desire to devour anything they come in contact with. They need mental help, you can't hold that against them, but it's a shame there is no national support group or facility for them to check into.

Between this incident and the Chelsea joke, there's no doubt about it. Straight up asshole.

The "bitch" didn't come from his lips, but it's just as bad—he yukked it up and and responded to the question.

I'd be happy if they'd just shut up and go home.
